The village of Kössen, nestled in the Kaiserwinkl region, has been a border region and a meeting place for smugglers for centuries. Smugglers could conceal their goods, such as coffee, schnapps, food, and livestock, across the border in the dense forests and ravines. The secret routes here included the famous smugglers’ trail high above the Tiroler Ache river.
